I need an audience to gather specifically to ignore me while I play for the purpose of recording solo jazz piano tunes, since the most authentic expression of my music comes from providing background music to large groups who aren't there to listen deliberately, as if they were at a concert or listening to a recording. Paradoxically, this is a recording I'm making and as the only listener in the studio, I'm the only audience. As a result, the recording sounds stiff and uncomfortable, sort of like how I feel as I listen to myself play instead of playing in a situation where I'm comfortable, wherein nobody seems to be listening at all.
