"Your music's weird!"

I hear that pretty often.  And sometimes it's true, especially if I'm singing (not live, though. The older, stranger stuff doesn't go over well);  I do enjoy writing pretty-sounding songs with off-putting lyrics.  Of course, I'm really just amusing myself.  These songs are intended for recreational purposes only.

I'm always recording new originals, and like most of my older material, they are catchy, tongue-in-cheek, ironic little ditties. Some of them are avant-garde, off-the-wall free-associations that defy categorization. Some are instrumentals  Some songs are actually meant sincerely, while many are sincerely twisted. My older work was recorded casually in the context of getting together with musical friends and collaborators and writing and creating something new for fun.  You might say I have recorded much of the time I was killing.  (And it's a fun way to kill time!) Much of that music comes off strangely, though, even if it's only meant as a joke; at my most psychotic, I'm really just blowing off steam.  Still, the result of listening to several of these jokes one after another raises a question: how can anyone tell how I mean anything?  So many songs are meant ironically that by the time you get to a song that's meant sincerely, it's either confusing or mistaken for something lame.  Or both. Sometimes I don't even know.
